Colene was married to Benjamin F. Ward, Jr., a native son and important figure of Oviedo, who is remembered not only as a skilled athlete but also as a visionary developer.

Their love story is an integral part of Oviedo's history. As Bernie Blackwood recounts, it was Ben who invited him in the early 60s to lend his expertise to the development of Mead Manor, one of the many neighborhoods in Oviedo that Ben helped bring to life. Despite future uncertainties, Ben's unwavering belief in the potential of their beloved town played a crucial role in its growth.

Colene, a beacon of kindness and grace, centered her life around her family, leaving a legacy of love and community spirit. In memory of her and Ben's profound contributions, your donations will help the Oviedo Historical Society preserve the rich history that Colene and Ben cherished.

The family joined in a celebration of Colene's life on Monday, June 12, at the Tuscawilla Country Club. As we remember Colene, we encourage everyone to perform an act of kindness, mirroring the profound love she bestowed on all who knew her.

In remembrance of Virginia "Colene" Ward, who passed away on June 7, 2023, aged 90, her family invites donations to the Oviedo Historical Society in lieu of flowers.
